First Birthday Cake Smash Session: Auckland Cake Smash Photographer

This Autumn my youngest niece turned One and in order to celebrate this very special milestone as befits a little princess we had to have a cake smash session at one of Auckland’s loveliest parks, the beautiful Botanic Gardens!

So, how do you start to plan a Cake Smash Session? Well first, you’ll want to decide on your main theme colours – we picked pink, purple and turquoise! – then you’ll want to source a smashable cake (a plain sponge cake from the supermarket works well, just add some whipped cream or icing!) or if you like to bake you can easily make and ice your own cake just how you like it!

Next you need the right outfit in your theme colours! If the weather is warm your baby may be fine in just a nappy with a nappy-cover or tutu on top, since it was a little cooler outside for our session Baby K wore a lace romper that can be purchased very affordably from sellers on sites like Etsy.com.

Finally you may want to add a few extra props in your theme colours to set the scene! Simple bunting or balloons work well. For our session I also provided a sweet pink blanket and my little bath-tub for afterwards and voila! we had the most gorgeous session capturing all the mess and fun that ensued!

If you’d love to have your own Cake Smash Session to celebrate your baby’s first year check out our Milestone Mini-Sessions, these 30 minute sessions include a few portraits with Mum and Dad, a cake smash and some fun in the tub! Mini’s can take place at your favourite Auckland park or in your own home and garden.

I hope you enjoy this little peek into our adorable Cake Smash Session and I’m sure you’ll agree that Baby K and her big sister are just the cutest!
